The Summer Flower and Vegetable Show is set for June 5-6. This is the opportunity for all club members to display their plants and vegetables. Savanna Feyereisen volunteered to be show chair. Let’s all do whatever we can to help her make this one of our best shows yet!
Show entries will be accepted on Friday, June 4 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm and on Saturday, June 5 from 8 to 9:30 am. To enter, you will need a show schedule and entry tags. The show schedule is a part of your Club Handbook, which many of you have. Updates of the first two or three pages will be available at the May 27 meeting. For those of you who have not received a Club Handbook, copies of the complete show schedule along with entry tags will also be available at the meeting. Our classification committee asks that you please have your entry tags filled out in advance.
New members, have no fear! This is a local competition show where judging is against a standard pretty much set by the Southwest Region judges, and adjusted for local growing conditions. This means that lousy weather and growing conditions can be taken into account by the judges. All members are strongly encouraged to enter at least one item for judging. Only by participating can you really learn the “ins and outs” of show competition. Don’t forget! If you took Club cultivars when they were passed out earlier this year, this is when you are expected to bring them back. Only Club members are permitted to participate in the cultivar competition.
Many visitors judge the quality of our Club by what they see at this show. It can create quite an impression on visitors if they see an abundance of first-class entries and exhibits packed into the Austin Area Garden Center when they stop by to view the show. Let’s impress our visitors and make this a show we can all be proud of. Clipboards for the show will make their final round at the May meeting.
