Welcome to April, 2011. We are experiencing very serious drought conditions, so let’s pray for some much needed rainfall, at least some “April showers to bring May flowers.” The wildflowers are trying to make a showing, but the dry weather is not letting them make their usual dazzling display. Farmers and vegetable gardeners are in special need of rain.
The 54th annual Zilker Garden Fest held March 26 & 27, appeared to be a great success, but we won’t have actual figures until after the AAGC Meeting on April 12th. The vendors had many beautiful and unusual plants, as well as other items for sale and the crowds were especially large and exuberant on Saturday. Again, let me thank all who supported the annual event, especially, all of our club members who worked very hard collecting money & tickets at the gate both days, Barry Lovelace and Dick Peterson, who headed up that gate collection detail, those who helped Robert Day with the golf cart driving and all who helped in any way. Annie and I helped count the gate admissions money all day Saturday.
Our March 31, regular meeting was very interesting and informative. Five of our club members presented the “You Can Do It,” program about projects we could all do at home. Thanks to Christie Rodgers, John Fox, Robert Day, Joe Yura, and Johanna Dickhut for their presentations.
The April 28, meeting which will be held at The Great Outdoors, should also be outstanding. All who attended the meeting there last year were very impressed. Great food snacks, beautiful plants to be purchased at a discount, and raffle items. What else could gardeners ask for?
Remember that we all need to get into high gear for our upcoming June 4th and 5th Plant Show and Sale. Savanna Feyereisen has agreed to be show chairperson and Laura Joseph and Irene Franco will co-chair the Plant Sale. We all need to support these chairpersons in every way we can. Thanks for volunteering.
Be sure to check the Calendar of Events Section in this newsletter for all upcoming events. Hope to see each of you at all of them.’
Sincerely,
Wilburn
