March Climate for Austin

The average daily maximum temperature varies from 67 at the beginning of the month to 75 at the end.  The minimum varies from 45 at the beginning to 53 at the end of the month.  Extremes are 98 observed in 1971 and 18 in l948.  We average only one day with a minimum of 32 or below.   The average last freeze date is March 3 and the record last freeze date is March 31.

Precipitation averages 1.87 inches but has ranged from a wet 7.53 in 2006 to just a trace in 1972.  A maximum 24-hour amount of 3.26 occurred in 2006.   On average, precipitation is observed on 7 days during the month with thunderstorms occurring on three of those days.

We usually receive about 55% of the possible sunshine, and between sunrise and sunset have 9 clear days, 8 partly cloudy days and 14 days with overcast conditions.  The time between sunrise and sunset increases from about 11 hours 33 minutes at the beginning of the month to 12 hours 27 minutes at the end of the month.
