President's Message

Sorry I was not able to attend our October 28th regular meeting at the Great Outdoors Nursery (relatives were visiting from South Carolina and I am recuperating from prostate surgery) but from what I’ve heard it was an outstanding meeting. Program speakers, wonderful food, tours, plant raffles, and the discounts offered for purchases of the beautiful and unusual plants proved to be a hit with all those attending. Thanks, Laura, for arranging and setting up this special treat.

As I am writing this on November 1 we are having some thunder and lightning here in LaGrange with the passage of a cool front. Hopefully, we will get some rain, as October was, for most everyone, totally without rainfall.

Observe November 11, Veteran’s Day, in honor of all those who have fought and in all too many cases given their lives to keep our country free.

Please notice that our November regular meeting will be on Thursday, November 18, 2010. This is our annual joint meeting with the Cactus and Succulent Society. Their President, Mr. Jeff Pavlat, will present the program, which I am sure will be very interesting. Their club usually provides lots of cactus and succulents for door prizes so that usually everyone will win at least one to take home.

Remember to observe and celebrate Thanksgiving Day, November 25, with family and friends in a way that is meaningful to you. All of us need to be thankful for all of our many rich blessings, especially for the fact that we live in the greatest country in the world, the United States of America.

Thursday, December 9, 2010 is the date for our Christmas banquet, awards presentation, and installation of officers.
