President's Message

Because of the severe drought we are experiencing, the wildflower season was very short to almost non-existent. Even when the weather forecasters predict a small chance of rain, we never seem to get it. So let’s continue to pray for rain and hope that we don’t get the tornadoes and other severe weather that many of the southern states got recently. The most recent death counts stands at 341.

Everyone who attended last Thursday’s regular meeting, at “The Great Outdoors,” had a wonderful time. Great food and drinks, a short demonstration of some rare and unusual plants, door prizes, and of course the 20% discount on purchases, all made for a wonderful evening. Thanks to Laura for arranging this meeting.

Our next meeting on Thursday, May 26, 2011, will feature our annual silent auction and live bidding auction, with Barry Lovelace once again serving as our auctioneer. Barry is a great auctioneer and always keeps things lively and entertaining by inserting some interesting and humorous facts during the auction. Bring items you want to donate for both auctions that night. We need to support these two auctions, as they are one of our major fundraisers for the year! Bring lots of cash or your checkbook and bid high on your favorite items. I know that there will be many items you just can’t live without. These auctions always stir up lots of interest and excitement.

Remember that our annual Flower and Vegetable Show and Plant Sale will be on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 & 5, 2011. Get those show specimens into winning condition, and bring lots of them to the show. If you have extras, consider donating them to the plant sale or possibly donating those you showed to the sale after the show. Winning ribbons on them might inspire buyers to pay more! Volunteers are needed during the show and sale. We always need all the help we can get and then some. Thanks to all who volunteered to be chairpersons of the show and plant sale.

Check the Calendar of Events Section in this newsletter to get the correct time and place of all upcoming events.

Sincerely,
Wilburn
