Can you believe another year is almost gone? And where did it go? Hopefully, this means that we were all very busy doing constructive and enjoyable things.
If you did not attend the club’s Christmas Banquet and Awards Program and the Installation of Officers and Board of Directors for 2011, you missed a great evening of fun and camaraderie. There was plenty of great food, including barbecue brisket, sausage, barbecue chicken, ham, and fried chicken, along with all the delectable side dishes and desserts brought by all the members. Aside from all the great food there were lots of beverages.
The Bronze Plaque Awards were presented to Annie Hackebeil, for Service as our club treasurer, and to Joe Colwell, for Horticultural Excellence. Certificates of Appreciation were given to Rainee Freeman, Savanna Feyereisen, and Russell Kohlert. Special thanks were extended to many other members for their contributions to the club’s activities.
The Christmas trees, decorated by various garden clubs of Austin, were on display in the Greene Room.
The banquet tables were beautifully decorated with red, white, and green tablecloths, with red, white and pink poinsettias placed on them.
Dr. and Mrs. Tom Wilten, from Dallas, accepted our invitation to attend, and Tom, a National TGOA/MGCA Vice President, again did the installation of Officers and members of the Board of Directors for 2011.
Norman Wagner introduced 2 of our scholarship winners and their guests. Each spoke briefly about their appreciation for receiving the scholarships our club provided and the great help it was with the continually rising cost of attending college. Both are attending Texas A & M University.
The evening ended with the drawing of tickets for door prizes, which were the beautiful poinsettias gracing the tables.
Remember that our first Board of Director’s meeting for 2011 will be on Monday, January 24, and the first regular meeting will be on Thursday, January 27. Check the calendar of events for all upcoming meetings.
I want to sincerely wish all of our members, friends, and supporters, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We should all be looking forward to a great year of enjoyable and enlightening gardening experiences.
Sincerely,
Wilburn
