President's Message

As we were afraid of, August did prove to be rather brutal in terms of hot temperatures and very little rain. Plants and vegetables that were beautiful through July, quickly took a beating in August. Now, here we are in September, and as I am writing this on Monday, September 6, Tropical Storm Hermine, has just made landfall and the forecast shows a 100% chance of rain for Tuesday as it moves northward into Texas. The rain will be very welcome, and hopefully the flooding will be minimal.

I just lived through (just barely), the 83rd Annual Fayette County Fair. I took 10 plants to the flower show and won seven blues and 3 reds. I was involved with the pigeon and chicken show Thursday through Sunday, with the judging taking place on Saturday. I ended up with Reserve Grand Champion of the Pigeon Show, and several Best of Class, and Reserve of Class wins. Annie assisted as Show Secretary and Savanna Feyereisen served as Show Clerk, working with the judge to record placings, hanging ribbons, and helping Annie figure out who won the Premier Exhibitor Plaque. All of this was a lot of fun, but very tiring as usual.

Since a number of us are having other meetings and conflicting schedules for the September 13 Board of Director’s meeting, we voted not to have it that night. If there are any really pressing issues, hopefully all Board Members can come to the regular meeting on September 23rd by 7 pm so that we can have a short Board Meeting before the regular meeting at 7:30.
