On Wednesday, July 7th, Mark, John, Joyce and Christie, rebuilt the short wall in front of the pond and repaired and cleaned out the pond. Boy, did the pond need it!!! Both walls were looking shabby and missing some rocks. Seems the Park had some rambunctious visitors that threw rocks in the pond. The dirty pond was not very attractive either. We drained the pond, using the fire bucket method (we’ll do it differently next time)! From the bottom of the pond we removed at least 4 inches of stinky muck and lot of rocks. The honeycomb rocks were used to restack the pond wall. The others were left stacked outside the pond for a future workday.
When finished, the short wall was a little taller and a lot more stable, using cut limestone that Mark brought. The pond is again looking attractive; the liner is hidden and the bottom of the pond is a lot cleaner. Over all, both of the fern beds and the pond are looking great. It took some work, but we had a great time chatting while we got dirty. (See attached photo).
Our next workday is Saturday, August 28. This is also the weekend of the Bamboo Show and Sale, so parking may be a challenge. They will have the outdoor part of their sale in the Oak Grove area.
